Last week I turned on the outside faucets for my building. The on and off valve is in my unit. It turns on the spigot in the front and back of our complex. When I turned on the valve, like I have done for the past two spring seasons, the water turned on. Once the water was on I heard the rush of the water going through the pipes and expected it to stop once the water filled the empty pipes, but I didn't.
The water kept running and running loudly.
I couldn't figure it out. I walked to the front of the house and didn't notice anything running outside and then I walked to the back of the house and saw water on my patio. I thought to myself, "Oh someone must have the water one outside and forgot to turn off the spigot..." but after closer examination I noticed the spigot was shut off.
SHUT OFF!??!
Water was coming out of the walls, the siding, under the kick boards and it was climbing the walls higher than I was tall!
I freaked.
THEN! I saw not only was it in the walls outside, it was coming into my unit from under the baseboards and it was like a RIVER on my newly remodeled northern cherry real wood floors.
I freaked some more.
I ran to the shut off valve and turned it off and it has remained turned off for a week or so since the incident. After calling and calling my association management company I finally had a plumber call me to set up an appointment.
Get this.
I have to be home for them to get in but their appointment window is 1-3 hours. Ummm, Hello?!? Like, I have vacation to take off for a plumber to fix something that isn't even my responsibility??
I work summer hours now (7:30am - 5:15pm M-Thurs and 7:30am - noon on Fridays) so I can leave early on Friday's. (not that I really leave at noon since my workload is insane....) Eventually we worked it out so that I can be there but it will be my Friday 'vacation' to do it.
What a waste.
