This morning I went to a very large printer in the city I work in and had a press check. I have never been inside this place before but have heard a ton about it over the past 10 years of being in the business.
I’m in awe.
This place is known to be the sweat shop of the industry. They are so large that they are one of the bigger printers in the nation. I can’t believe the shear SIZE of the place let alone the number of workers I saw to keep the place running.
It was crazy amazing!
I can also see the point about being a sweat shop. I mean, I wouldn’t want to work there at all! People were just working their butts off running everywhere and the amount of work going on at one time was just mind blowing.
I would have taken a picture but I was on a small tour after the press run and didn’t think it would have been appropriate. I mean, there is just NO WAY for me to describe what I say other than crazy HUGE!
Woah.

I used to help companies finance those huge printers. Very sophisticated, very very expensive. Many of the workers would have to be flown to Germany to get trained on them.
i'm crazy huge ;-)
yes the printers are extremely complex and require a very highly trained operator. A printer can easily spend 100's of thousands of dollars on one printing press. It's very common.
