For the last two weeks my skating has been sporadic. Not in the sense that I'm not doing it but in the sense that I can't skate as long.
My back hurts.
It hurt so bad last night that I nearly puked from the pain after only three miles. I was forced to leave the dome at five miles. I haven't experienced this kind of pain for a few years and I really don't want to anymore.
I suppose the painting, skating and the lack of a decent mattress as attributed to this awful pain and my back may need to rest. I'm taking the next four days off from skating and will replace it with walking and see if this helps.
I have to figure something out or the marathon in April will not be an option for me and that can't be the case. I won't let that happen.

Sounds like over-exertion. Take a much needed break then you'll be good as gold.
Ouch...back pain is the worst. Take it easy, and make sure to rest yourself. Painting is the worst...all that twisting and reaching along with the movement of your arms.
I've heard sleeping on the floor is good, but that could be an 'old wives' tale.'
